Hello!

Bethany Poese (she/her), owner and head trainer of Dog Eared
(And yes – she goes by Bethany, not Beth!)

Bethany started training professionally in 2016 under the guidance and support of a local positive reinforcement trainer. After six years (and a global pandemic!), she decided it was time to spread her wings and start following her dream: owning her own dog training business.

Dog Eared Training & Behavior is the product of over 30 years of being the nerdy, crazy dog lady – and here’s hoping we can help you avoid some of the mistakes and heartache we lived through along the way.

Bethany’s passion lies with the dogs with Big Feelings –
the anxious, fearful, reactive, and aggressive dogs we share our lives with –
but she’ll never turn down a squishy puppy.

Every dog trainer has the dog that made them the trainer they are – and Bethany has two.

Juno – the ears behind the logo! – joined the family in 2013. The rescue she was adopted  from recommended a trainer who utilized aversive tools, so off they went! Bethany quickly realized these tools weren’t helping her reactivity, however, and started looking for alternatives.

Maxwell, her Cocker Spaniel mix, came home in 2016. If a behavioral issue exists, he’s got it. He is also sociable, smart as a whip, and confident as all get out. (Not to mention cute – his saving grace.) He has forced Bethany to learn more and do better, and though she doesn’t believe in the “you get the dog you deserve” saying, he certainly needed someone to step up to the plate – and hopefully we have.

Continuing education is so important for trainers – we are in an ever evolving, unregulated field, and keeping up to date on the latest ensures your trainer is best able to help you and your dog.

Recent continuing education includes…

  • The Great Big Dog Aggression Conference with Michael Shikashio & Dr. Chris Pachel (2021)
  • Clicker Expo (2019, 2020, 2021)
  • The Lemonade Conference (2020)
  • Control Unleashed: Conference Unleashed (2020)
  • Karen Pryor Dog Training Professional Program (2019)
  • Managing Dog-Dog Interactions with Sue Sternberg (2019)

… and more!

Questions about how we train?

Dog Eared Training & Behavior utilizes positive reinforcement training methods – but what exactly does that mean?
